Following the success of its first festival, Brewsvegas is returning again this year for round two.
The festivities kick off on 21 March, and you’ll find plenty of hoppy goodness at South Bank during the week-long event. Whether you consider yourself a connoisseur, or you simply want to try something other than what’s on special at the bottle shop this week, you’ll be able to sample new beers at these events:
Black and Tan with Newstead Brewing
The Charming Squire, 23 March, 6:00pm
James Squire is collaborating with Newstead Brewing Co to create a unique take on the traditional British black and tan brewing style. Newstead Brewing Co is creating the tan for the blend and The Charming Squire will be responsible for the black element. The beer launches on 23 March and will be available at The Charming Squire for the remainder of the festival (unless it sells out).
Beer Battle and the Beast
Aquitaine Brasserie, 23 March, 6:30pm
Produce and beers from Queensland and New South Wales will be going head to head at Aquitaine Brasserie during Brewsvegas. Using a New South Wales suckling pig and Queensland veal, head chef Damon Porter will be getting creative with a series of dishes such as meat paddle-pops and edible stones – all matched with Queensland’s Burleigh Brewing Co. and New South Wales’ Stone and Wood.
Tomahawk Bar, 24 March, 6:00pm
Book your spot at Tomahawk Bar to enjoy five courses of Spanish food prepared by The Golden Pig’s head chef Katrina Ryan. Each course will be served with carefully matched beers. ¡Que rico!
The Belgique Do it Best
Cowch, 25 March, 6:00pm
Ditch the dessert wine and enjoy your beer with a serving of sweets. Cowch is demonstrating the versatility of beer by pairing its signature French gateaux with drops from the renowned Timmermans brewery. This event will take place on March 25 and Cowch will also be serving beer spiders throughout the entire festival. Four types of local beer have been matched with different ice-cream varieties to make the spiders.
Beast and Yeast
Tomahawk Bar, 25 March, 6:00pm
This event is every beer-drinking carnivore’s fantasy: a night of meat and beer. Settle in at Tomahawk Bar to feast on a selection of five game meats served with paddles of beers.
Tomahawk Bar, 26 March, 6:00pm
Bring your form along to this event at Tomahawk Bar, where you’ll be offered paddles featuring 13 beers from 13 local brewers. The night is intended to show some support for the local brewing scene. Once you’ve tasted the beers, you’ll be able to vote for your favourite brew, with the winner being announced at 9:30pm.
