South Bank’s top gluten-free picks

Dining out can sometimes be a hard task for those of us with gluten intolerance, with sneaky wheat hiding in a number of delicious menu items. You won’t have to miss out at South Bank though, with the majority of restaurants offering up delectable gluten-free options and substitutes for you to nosh on. Here are our top gluten-free picks in the precinct.

Flowers of the World
More often that not, dessert is likely to equal gluten. But fear not, Flowers of the World will make sure your sweet tooth does not go unsatisfied. Indulge in an array of gluten-free delights, including choc-nut brownies, orange and almond cake, raspberry chocolate cake and chocolate pecan slice. If you’re in the mood for savoury, you can also munch on yummy all-day breakfast options, vegetable frittatas and fresh salads.

Denim Co.
Denim Co. doesn’t need gluten either to serve up a divine dessert. Pair your coffee with a Valencia orange cake, mixed nut torte or chocolate, white chocolate and peanut butter brownies. You can also indulge in a slice of hazelnut japonais cake, Lindt chocolate mousse cake, or grab an icing-sugar-dusted brownie heart. In the morning you’ll be able to turn almost every item on the menu into a gluten-free version, or dig in to a hearty baby spinach and feta frittata.

Ahmet’s Turkish Restaurant
Add a touch of spice to your evening with a gluten-free feast from Ahmet’s. The restaurant can provide sans-gluten options for a number of its delicious meals, which can be easily identified on the menu. All of Ahmet’s traditional handmade dips can be made without gluten, including the classic baba ghanoush and spicy acili ezme with chilli and capsicum. You can also order anything from the charcoal grill as well as a number of main dishes.

Viet de Lites
If you are craving the fresh flavours of Vietnam, Viet de Lites will have you covered. Start your meal with gluten-free entrees of bo cuon (beef rice paper rolls), tom lui (grilled prawn skewers) or cha gio cua (crispy rice paper filled with seafood). All of Viet de Lites’ zesty salads and warming soups are also gluten free, as well as a number of mains.

The Great Aussie Sweet Company
Rejoice! Our favourite sweet shop now has clear indicator’s on ALL of their delectable chocolate and lollies so you can clearly tell which one’s are in the ‘safe zone’ for any gluten intolerance. Guilt free sweets? Yes please!
