Vibrant Vegan and Vegetarian

No meat? No worries! Here’s our round-up of the best vegan and vegetarian options in the precinct….and there’s not one boring garden salad in sight!

 

Our favourite vegan food in South Bank 

Viet de Lites‘ coconut pumpkin is great for two reasons. Firstly, you can try it in the restaurant to see if you love it as much as we do. Secondly, the low-fuss recipe is right here so you can make it at home too!

The menu at Gandhi Indian Kitchen is a vegan’s dream come true! For entree, opt for their Onion Bhaji and Aloo Bonda. There are also three vegan curries on offer as a main course: Vegetable Kolhapuri, Yellow Dal Tadka and the Punjabi Eggplant curry.

Heaven on earth, aka Doughnut Time, stocks a solid range of vegan doughnuts. Our go-to flavours are the classic Pump Up the Jam and the red-velvet inspired Sia Later.

Describe your dietary needs to the chefs at Stokehouse Q and a special, seasonal meal will be created! For vegans, they can whip up a mean mushroom and thyme tart with celeriac, chestnuts and rocket pesto. Another sustaining option is their Vegetables a la Grecque served with buckwheat risotto, black garlic and a savoury crumble.

Need a quick snack on the go? dot.espresso makes their vegan protein balls from scratch on the premises! Packed with nuts, fruits and seeds, these bad boys keep us energised for hours. The best bit? Each costs just $3.50

 

Our favourite vegetarian food in South Bank 

Introducing the Yiros Shop‘s new menu item that whipped the Internet users of Brisbane into a frenzy: HALLOUMI CHIPS. Run, don’t walk. But then when you are eating them, walk don’t run because they are like solid nuggets of gold that must be treated with care…

Soup served in a bread basket… can we get a hell yeah?!?! Bourbon Street packs a punch with their Creole Chowder: a creamy, spicy vegetable soup. And yes, as aforementioned, it is served in bread basket.

Vegos will be tickled pink by none other than Mister Paganini himself. Half of their small plates are meat-free! Plus four great vege-packed pizzas.

We’ve got the need… the need for cheese. Luckily, the Charming Squire understands. Introducing the Ultimate Cheese Toast: a racy combination of raclette, Gruyère and tomato relish. Props also go to their passionfruit and honeycomb hotcakes and the breakfast bruschetta with beetroot relish, pumpkin, haloumi and poached eggs.

Mushrooms are naturally fat-free, cholesterol-free and gluten-free whilst being rich in potassium and vitamin D. Aquitaine Brasserie honours the famed funghi with their porcini and cashew risotto, which is served with an assortment of fresh and roasted mushrooms.
