Picnic in the Parklands Hampers

Hip, hip, hooray! South Bank Parklands is celebrating 25 years and you’re invited to join the fun at Picnic in the Parklands, a free event for the whole family.

Whether it’s a picnic of ice creams and milkshakes, or more ‘grown up’ choices of charcuterie, mezze or pizza picnics, a number of South Bank’s food retailers have announced their special Picnic in the Parklands hamper menus to celebrate 25 years of Brisbane’s much-loved and biggest back yard.

Malt Traders
A picnic pack made in heaven!
Malt is offering sumptuous charcuteries for 1 to 2 people starting from $12 or for $20, 2 to 4 people will enjoy a charcuterie selection including Red Leicester cheddar, camembert, mild salami, wafer sliced prosciutto, crisp breads and rich bush tomato chutney.

Gandhi Indian Kitchen & Laneway Stall
It’s a picnic so don’t hurry over these curries…
Picnics for 1:
Gandhi Indian Kitchen’s curries are famous throughout the precinct and for Picnic in the Parklands, they’re offering special takeaway packs for 1 from just $10.95 to $13.95, which includes a curry main, rice, salad and a papadum.
The picnic curries available are vegetable kolhapuri curry, butter chicken or lamb rogan josh, all served with rice, salad and a Spapadum with additional sides priced from $2.50 to $6.00.

My Sweetopia
Sweeten your picnic with these tempting options…
Grab a raspberry and white chocolate springtime muffin or fruit salad for $5, chia pudding with natural yoghurt, fresh banana and berries for $8.50 or an almond and custard filled croissant for $8. Sweet!

Tippler’s Tap
Did someone mention sausage? Vegetarian options also available…
The Tippler’s Tap team will be offering Chicago hampers for 2 featuring a Chicago hotdog, a Maxwell Street Polish and fries for $25, with vegetarian option also available. A Sunday Session hamper suitable for 4 is priced at $20 and contains 2 baskets brimming with Tippler’s mouth-watering wings. Also available will be kids hampers for only $7, containing one kids hotdog with tomato sauce and cheese, small fries and juice or a soft drink.

Popolo Italian Kitchen & Bar
Pop into Popolo to collect a hamper for 2 or 4 people…
Popolo has been offering picnic baskets filled with their lip-smacking Italian fare for some time and on Sunday 8 October, demand will be high, so pre-ordering is essential.
Picnic hampers start from $65 for a selection of antipasto delicacies for two, to the Quattro grazing picnic for 4 priced at $100 and filled with a range of antipasto, fritti, pizza and non-alcoholic drinks. Cold Rock
Who says you can’t start with dessert first?
Cold Rock will be offering a family pack featuring 2 large cups of ice cream plus 2 kiddies’ cups and 1 selection of flavour toppings for each for $25.
There’s also a Sundae Share Combo on offer comprising either a large cup of ice cream or Cold Rock’s legendary Sundae, plus a large milk shake for $18.

Ahmet’s Turkish Restaurant
Perfect for picnics is Ahmet’s Turkish hamper at just $50 that will easily satisfy 2 people.
Comprising bread and two dips, 2 kofte, 4 zucchini fritters, 1 lamb or vegetarian pide plus 2 slices of baklava, Ahmet’s tasty selection is perfect ‘utensil free’ fare for a lazy afternoon down by the river.

Great Aussie Sweet Co.
Also celebrating 25 years at South Bank is the very first retail shop to open in the Parklands in 1992 – the Great Aussie Sweet Co.
This traditional lolly shop features a huge range of old favourites together with new lines will be offering a 20% discount to customers to ‘design a lolly bag’ from their ‘pick and mix’ range. Customers should simply mention Picnic in the Parklands to secure their discount on the day.
