Denim Co. is a South Bank institution. Opening on Little Stanley Street more than 10 years ago, the boutique and cafe has become a favourite spot for many a coffee and fashion addict. Owner Fara Sutjipto has carefully curated a perfect selection of Australian designers, alongside a delicious menu of breakfast through to late-night treats.
How long have you been in the restaurant business?
I have been in the industry for about 25 years now!
How was Denim Co. born?
I have always been in the cafe business and my sister was in the fashion industry. When we were travelling through Europe together we were inspired by the mix of combined fashion cafes we found, and saw an opportunity to bring that back to Australia. And from there Denim Co. was born.
What is your favourite dish on the Denim Co. menu?
The pesto scrambled eggs (Green Eggs) is my current favourite! You just can’t go wrong with amazing scrambled eggs. Add some juicy blistered cherry tomatoes with toasted dark rye bread and it’s a definite winner.
What gourmet trend has inspired you recently?
I was in Singapore recently and had an amazing Wagyu steak. Sometimes the best dishes are the simple ones – let amazing flavours and good cooking speak for themselves!
What fashion trend has inspired you recently?
I am really loving coats, vests and high-waisted pants at the moment. There’s just something so stylish about some clean, high-waisted pants paired with a simple
shirt and a longline vest.
What makes DENIM CO. unique in the Brisbane food scene?
We have an amazing multicultural team at Denim Co. There is such a mix of different personalities here and our customers really respond to that!
What do you like most about South Bank?
South Bank is such a unique place! I love the sunshine, the Epicurious Garden and
just the variety of cuisines you have to choose from – there is always something different to try in the precinct. It is a little peaceful centre in bustling Brisbane,
the perfect setting for grabbing a coffee and relaxing by the river.
