September marks one thing in every self-respecting Brisbanite’s calendar. It’s when we get together, pay homage to our beautiful river city and paint the town a very bright shade of pink. That’s right, it’s Brisbane Festival! Here’s your go-to guide on everything you need to do, see, hear and – perhaps most importantly – eat!
Okay, so there are about a million and one amazing shows on offer as part of this year’s program, but these are our top picks:
River of Light
This art-meets-technology show will illuminate the night! The show features dynamic jets and giant spirals of water, full-colour lighting and rainbow-coloured lasers, to tell a new traditional story by Yuggera and Toorbal man Shannon Ruska. This light and laser spectacular is a must-see free event which will be shown several times every night throughout Brisbane Festival.
Paul Lewis in Recital
With a beautiful touch and an astonishing ear for the many colours of the piano, Paul Lewis in recital is a transcendent experience and a personal sharing of ideas and emotions not to be missed.
Blanc De Blanc Encore
The hedonistic world of Blanc de Blanc returns to Brisbane Festival off the back of a record-breaking Sydney Opera House summer season with a brand new show. Serving up an intoxicating blend of flirtation and acrobatic feats to transport you to a champagne nirvana, this is the encore you’ve been waiting for!
Treasury Brisbane Arcadia
It’s free to enter, day and night. Like the Festival itself, and like the mythical Arcadia after which the hub is named, it’s a place of revels, revelations and romance.
Ahhh…Riverfire – the ultimate cherry on top of the Brisbane Festival’s fantastic line-up! Set to an almighty soundtrack of the year’s biggest songs and heart-pumping classics, this is one of the most technically challenging and electrifying fireworks displays in Australia. Fired from multiple bridges, barges and city rooftops, spectators are also treated to aerobatics from the Australian Defence Force with displays by Super Hornets and helicopters. This is definitely one to mark down in your diary!
Will you feel like a time-traveller waltzing across eras as you pass through each door? Or one of the very ghosts these doors seem to summon? Every entrance into this house of possibility will begin at the same door, but no two visitors will leave the same as they entered.
Why not make a night of it and pair your show with a #delish meal from one of South Bank’s restaurants? Check out the epic range of meal deals here to find the perfect one for you. After all, you can’t possibly enjoy a show on an empty stomach!
