Australia Day Bites Guide

With the impending arrival of Australia Day on the Green and a long weekend of all-things backy, barbie and Triple J’s hottest 100 countdown, The Bank’s resident eateries have a delicious range of goodies to keep us fueled.

From pizza-filled picnic baskets to mini-pavlovas, these local South Bank dishes are totally worth hunting down this Australia Day long weekend!

There’s a good reason Aquitaine’s picnic hampers are vouched to be one of the best in Brisbane! Serving up an array of olives, house baked bread, cheeses and more, you’re sure to be crowned the picnic guru this Australia Day!

Brooklyn Depot
If you’re looking for a bite that goes down a treat, Brooklyn Depot have you covered. Think: grass fed beef, cheese, oak leaf lettuce, tomato and Depot special sauce on a melt-in-your-mouth milk bun… we’re sold!

Cold Rock Ice Creamery
Ice cream lovers, rejoice! Cold Rock Ice Creamery have your dessert-loving tastebuds sorted this long weekend. If you’re feeling a little patriotic, we suggest the Aussie Vanilla Ice Cream with Caramello Koalas and Tim Tams.

Paper Fish
With Paper Fish, it’s all in the name! Fish and chips is their specialty, offering the freshest range of fish, hot chips (their seasoning is a must try!), and other mouth-watering O.G’s such as seafood tacos and calamari rings. Run, don’t walk…

Popolo has been offering picnic baskets filled to the brim with lip-smacking Italian fare (hello, endless pizza and antipasto!) since we can remember. Our suggestion? The basket for four, paired with live Aussie beats at Australia Day on the Green.

River Quay Fish*
River Quay Fish know a thing (or ten) when it comes to seafood, and there’s nothing more Aussie than enjoying fresh fish and chips in the scorching sun. Try the double-crunch salt and pepper prawns and rosemary sea salt fries for a seriously enjoyable meal.

The Jetty*
You had us at grazing hamper, The Jetty! Pair your Australia Day on the Green with a hamper filled to the brim with Moreton Bay bug rolls, lamb kofte, kale and pumpkin salad and sweetcorn fritters… Oh my, we’ll meet you there!

The Great Aussie Sweet Company
Lined with walls full of sugary goodness, The Great Aussie Sweet Company revives our love for childhood sweets… and since it’s a long weekend, we can totally justify treating ourselves to some authentic Aussie treats, right? Yeah, we thought so.

Denim Co.
Denim Co. is at it AGAIN, answering all of our dessert-loving dreams with their seriously genius bite-sized pavlova. Handmade with love, we know you’ll be drooling all over the place when you see this IRL. Go on, get eating!

*psst: Picnic hampers need to be booked ahead of time!

Take me to Aquitaine Brasserie and Brooklyn Depot and Cold Rock Ice Creamery and Paper Fish and Popolo and River Quay Fish and The Jetty and The Great Aussie Sweet Company and Denim Co.
