5 Minutes with…Jess and Nicola from The Unrefined

The girls from The Unrefined are a force to be reckoned with.  After initially meeting while working in fashion together, their shared passion for all things health led them on a journey which ultimately concluded with ditching sugar and taking their friendship to dizzying new heights by becoming business partners.  Enter ‘The Unrefined’ sugar-free granola which is now stocked in various local restaurants and cafes, including our very own Che Asado.  We took 5 with the girls to learn about what inspired them to start their business, their fave South Bank spot and what they just couldn’t live without…

FAVOURITE MEAL
Nicola & Jess: Obviously Granola haha 😉 While we have been known to have it for breakfast, lunch and dinner we do sometimes take a break from it and anything that comes out of the Kitchen at The Charming Squire South Bank always blows us away. Nicola loves the Ribs and Jess loves the Pork Belly.

COULDN’T LIVE WITHOUT
Nicola: Running. Working and starting up your own business can be stressful so it is a great way for me to unwind and focus my energy on something else.

Jess: Beach days. We are so lucky to live in such a beautiful country and be surrounded by amazing beaches. I tend to go a bit stir crazy if i don’t stop and get to the beach every couple of weeks.

FAVOURITE SOUTH BANK SPOT
Nicola: The Charming Squire is my absolute fav! The food that comes out of that kitchen is incredible and I can honestly say we have never been around such passionate and knowledgeable wait staff. It is hands down one of the best restaurants I have ever been to.

Jess: I have an Argentinian background so my fav would be Che Asado. The whole place is warm and open and the live music is always fun for a Sunday afternoon. The Empanadas are also to die for and won me over straight away.

WHY DID YOU START THE UNREFINED
Nicola: I have always had a passion for healthy living and eating and really enjoy learning about how the body digests and reacts to the different foods. It has been the ultimate platform for me to get creative and constantly learn about everything I am putting in my body.

Jess: I have always wanted to have something for myself and like Nicola, have always had a passion for cooking and creating new dishes. It wasn’t until recently that i realised it could be a career as i always just saw it as a part of life. Its so exciting to have created this with one of my best friends who is equally as passionate.

IF YOU WERE A DRINK…
Nicola: Gin and Tonic

Jess: Pinot Noir
